Dinner & A Book - The Glass Castle

Episode #706 - The Glass Castle

This books is very sensitive and one of the best I have ever read. It makes a strong point!! It shows how some people can survive anything.

The Walls Children are true survivors. They not only manage to live in desperate conditions, they are resilient! Join me and my guest Posey Tucker as we discuss Jeannette Walls, The Glass Castle and prepare a special meal for very special people--on Dinner and a Book.

The Walls family consists of father Rex, a man with big dreams who teaches his children how to survive. He has huge dreams that never materialize--he's a raging alcoholic and can't provide anything for his children Lori, Jeannette, Brian and Maureen. Their mother, Rose Mary is trained to teach but focuses on her artwork while her children are starving, filthy and sleeping under inflatable rafts to keep out the rain from a hole in the roof. The Walls children are true survivors. No food? They dig through garbage cans in the school cafeteria. Holes in their pants? They color their legs with black markers. Kids throw rocks at them? They build a mattress-catapult to fling dozens of rocks back. Impossible you say? Not so. These children survive with such resiliency that you will be amazed. Posey Tucker and I are going to discuss a true story: Jeannette Walls The Glass Castle and prepare a Thanksgiving meal to honor them. Join us for an amazing adventure.
