Episode #1005 - The Help

Join me and my guest Irene Eskridge as we discuss Kathryn Stockett's "The Help" while preparing some special southern dishes, some from the book and some from Irene's upbringing, on Dinner and a Book.

"The Help" is a novel about the relationships between African-American maids and their white employers in 1960's Mississippi. The novel is told from the perspective of three characters: Aibileen Clark, a middle-aged African-American maid who has spent her life raising white children and has recently lost her only son; Minny Jackson, an African-American maid who has often offended her employers and Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, a young white woman who has recently moved back home after graduating college to find out her childhood maid has mysteriously disappeared. Skeeter longs to break free of the Junior League expectations of her childhood friends.
