Welcome to WNIT and to Economic Outlook, we appreciate you visiting our site and tuning into our show. We hope you make it a regular part of our weekly routine. Tune in each week to hear the stories and meet the people helping to drive the economy throughout the region. We’ll aim to bring you timely updates and offer you unique insights into key projects or programs contributing to our economic growth.

I’m honored to join you as your host. For the past twenty plus years, I’ve had an opportunity to work on the front lines and in the trenches on key economic development projects influencing our region. Currently I serve as the President & CEO of the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce. There I have the opportunity to work in economic development, public policy, and destination marketing. I’ve worked closely with the leaders in every corner of the region on a variety of key projects and will look to leverage those relationships to bring you a broad cross section of perspectives. You won’t be able to find the in depth conversation about the economy in Michiana anywhere else.

This foray into television is a new thing for me. Though I’ve been a frequent guest, I’ve come to realize I have A LOT to learn. Fortunately, we’ve got the talented team at WNIT steering the ship! From the senior leadership to the staff to the many volunteers I’ve met at the Station, this is one top notch organization and team. We’re fortunate to have an asset like WNIT in our region and I’m honored to have an opportunity to work closely with this team.

In our effort to bring you the unique insight you desire, we’ll also welcome another “newbie” to the team in George Lepeniotis. George will join us each week with reports from the field related to the topics we’re discussing on the show. We think there is great value in taking you outside of the studio and to the front line for an inside look at what’s happening and for some additional conversation with key leaders. Please join me in welcoming George.

For our first show, we decided to take a look back at 2016 with three individuals you are very familiar with. Bob Montgomery, anchor of WSBT TV News First thing in the morning; Erin Blasko of the South Bend Tribune; and Amish Shah, the CEO of KemKrest. Click on the hyperlinks for more information on each. The three will offer some great insight into the stories that shaped 2016. We’ll touch on politics and the elections, we’ll talk about the economy and some of the key projects that advanced in 2016, and we’ll take a sneak peek into 2017 and some of what we might expect.

Thanks for tuning in. We know how valuable your time is, thanks for spending some of it with us. Remember, you can join us on Friday nights at 8:30 p.m. or Sunday afternoons at 12:30 p.m. on WNIT, or anytime at WNIT.org.

Finally, I welcome your feedback. Let us know what we’re doing well, where we fell short, and about the things that interest you about our region. You can email directly at jrea@sbrchamber.com.
