SPARK is an 11-week entrepreneurship training program for under-resourced, high potential women entrepreneurs. The intent of the program is to assist women in "sparking" or launching successful businesses. SPARK was modeled after the Women's Initiative (WI) in San Francisco. A South Bend community-based action group has been working with WEI on the SPARK project since November 2010.
As of now the schedule for the SPARK Entrepreneurship Training Program will be as follows:
May 24, 2011 9:00 am. - 12:00 - Entrepreneurial Screening where it will be determined whether potential clients fit the program and whether the program fits the needs of potential clients. Jared Bernstein, director of the living standards program for the Economic Policy Institute, Washington
Jared Bernstein joined the Economic Policy Institute in 1992 where he directs the Institute's living standards programs. He is author of a new book, forthcoming in March: Crunch: If the Economy's Doing So Well, Why Do I Feel So Squeezed? He has also published extensively in popular and academic venues, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Philadelphia Enquirer, and the American Prospect. He is a contributor to the CNBC Financial News Network, blogs regularly for TPMCafe.com, and produces the new podcast, "Econocorner."
The panelists will address such issues as the Bear Stearns collapse; recession - fact or fiction; sales forecasts of big ticket items; $ 4 gallon gasoline prices; credit and the Fed; and how bad will things get before they get better.
This special edition of ECONOMIC OUTLOOK is a local companion program to the Economic Forecasting Summit held on March 27 at the Century Center in South Bend.
