In setting up an Adult Learning Center in Starke County, the Center of Workforce Innovations aims to give people who may not have finished high school the opportunity to learn the skills needed to make strides in the real world. We explore how through various classes and certifications, adults are able to find their place in today's workforce.
The Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams serves as a place for college students to study how water systems work. But through its programs geared toward younger students allows them to pass on that knowledge to the next generation. Through various K-12 programs, the Lilly Center teaches these young kids to care for natural bodies of water in our region.
Through the Stayer Center at the Mendoza College of Business, adults are able to learn the tools needed to move into a management position. The four module program includes topics like leadership essentials and how to apply them to a professional setting.
The Next Launch is a business oriented competition for up and coming entrepreneurs in high school. Participating students put together their own presentations on a business idea of theirs and presented it to a panel of judges. The Ron Rubin School for the Entrepreneur hosts the competition where 26 teams from four states competed for a top prize of $25,000.
At the ETHOS Innovation Center in Elkhart, students in grades K-12 get the chance to participate in building, programming, and competing in the field of robotics. We explore how these kids are able to use what they are learning on the field and turn it into a potential career path.
Across the Michiana area students are practicing mindfulness to help them focus and stay attentive. At Darden Elementary School they introduced Mindful U Thursdays where their students work with professional yoga instructors to practice yoga and mindfulness skills.
Goodwill Industries is giving veterans the opportunity to learn about the services that are available to them. Goodwill partnered with the WorkOne organization to help veterans on their job hunt, answer questions that many have about joining the workforce, and provide resources.
The Dugout Dolls are far from your typical softball training facility. In fact when Trish Gardini noticed that the community was lacking female leadership she created the organization to help. The staff here uses softball and coaching as a vehicle to empower women and girls in the community.
As technology becomes more user friendly, it's being found being used more and more in the classroom. Elkhart Community Schools has been working to give teachers and students the necessary tools to become more digitally literate in a growing technological world.
