Education Counts looks for best practices in teaching and learning. This week we’re looking at how pre-school in Cass County have adapted to distance learning. South Bend Community School Corporation has adapted to online learning for adult students. Tippecanoe Valley Middle School launched a 31-Day Mental Wellness Challenge for students, staff and teachers. The South Bend Civic Theatre has designed free online classes and experiences.

    Tippecanoe Valley Middle School in Akron is taking an alternative approach to ensuring the well being of students and staff. Not through a gym class, health class, or healthy diet. They are challenging their school community to prioritize their own mental health, for 31 days. It takes 21 days to build a habit, but they are taking an addition 10 to make sure that mental health is in tip top shape. They want to ensure that students and staff are more clear minded as they proceed with their daily routines during this prolonged at home stay.

    Education is a vital source to the overall cognitive well-being of an individual. This applies to more than just K-12, but also adults who wish to expand their abilities. It is never too late to pursue an education, and to build a better life for yourself. However with the world trying its best to grasp on to structure, many adults are feeling discouraged from pursuing education in this climate. The SBCSC Adult Education program wants its students to feel at ease on their journey towards graduation, with an easy to use online program, and passionate educators.
