Meet a former librarian who opened an inclusive bookstore in South Bend to make sure there’s a book for everyone. Kathy Burnette, owner of The Brain Lair, said she first started thinking of opening a store decades ago after searching for books for her daughter. Her store opened in July of 2018.

Mini Medical University
Take a look inside a mini-medical university where high school students get hands-on experience at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. During the week-long program they get to dissect an eye, examine blood vessels and even deliver the “baby” of a birth simulator robot named Simantha.

The Fine Arts
The fine arts can be an important, but often overlooked aspect of student life. These creative outlets allow students to take a more hands on approach and explore as aspect of education they may not get in other classes throughout the school day. Brent travels to Mishawaka High School where young artists are encouraged to think outside the box.

Spoonful of Imagination
Spoonful of Imagination is a non-profit art studio located in Warsaw, Indiana. Kids and adults have the opportunity to come in and take classes, workshops, or just have fun with arts and crafts.

Conscious Discipline
Sometimes disciplining children can be as simple as asking them why they did the negative action in the first place. This style is known as Conscious Discipline and the aim is to teach positive action through demonstration and recognition. A group of teachers took the time to learn the ins and outs of this form of self awareness in the classroom.
