Notre Dame Rocketry Team
Students at the River Park Branch of the St Joseph County Library in South Bend had an opportunity to create space kaleidoscopes. The students learned about Mars and the different rovers NASA has developed. The Notre Dame Rocketry Team connects to students through its outreach program to teach kids about science, reaching over 700 members of the South Bend and surrounding community through STEM Engagement events every year.

Black College Expo - Ivy Tech
Ivy Tech South Bend hosted the Black College Expo for middle and high school students to learn more about historic black colleges and universities. Students learned about the history and future of HBCU schools. Fraternity and sorority members shared traditions and the rich experience of attending an HBCU.

3D Printing - Fab Lab
The Fab Lab at Lake Michigan College is an open-access digital fabrication studio and collaborative workshop. Maker spaces like the Fab Lab offer students and the community opportunities to learn, create and innovate. A recent class learned how to make a 3d printer.

Career and Technical Education programs - also called career centers provide students with hands-on learning in a variety of fields. The Elkhart Area Career Center serves juniors and seniors from 12 area schools. Students finish the curriculum with college credits, accreditation and real world experience. Community Roar - Benton Harbor Area Schools
Benton Harbor Schools has launched an innovative program titled, the “Community Roar” to help residents stay connected to the district. Families also receive educational assistance from the school district and other community partners. The bus has been equipped with a mobile computer lab and internet connectivity to allow community members to participate in a continuous learning series.

The program incorporates a student’s choices and then instruct using adaptive language and creative ways to help immerse and engage students in their art form so they can be playing an instrument, painting, or dancing within minutes of their first lesson.

Art can be as transformational for viewers as for those who create. The Marshall County Jail is hosting a program that teaches inmates to process and express themselves and ultimately be moved through art classes. Participants learn to find their voice through artmaking.
