At Lake Michigan College, non-native English speakers over the age of 18 are given the opportunity to learn about U.S. Culture and the English language. This course is meant to help those who take it be better prepared to enter the workforce or go to college.

A Rosie Place for Children
A Rosie Place For Children serves all 92 counties in the state of Indiana by offering respite care for medically fragile children. They are not like your traditional hospital, they try to emphasize a home away from home environment with respect to current care givers. The staff works hard so that every child is supported and can flourish in this environment. They even offer online resources for families seeking programs and services.

Holy Cross College: New BA Program
The staff at Holy Cross College have been working on creating and introducing a brand new BA Program to its students . This program will make it possible for teachers in Native American reservation schools to complete their BA and teaching credentials with a mix of online and two week summer sessions. The program will also be available to teachers aides in the South Bend School Corporation in the future. Holy Cross Hopes that their efforts can help to increase teacher diversity in local schools.

The Underground Railroad Days in Vandalia, Michigan showcases the legacy of historical sites and those who helped ensure freedom. We visited Wild School at Luna Hill Farm for a look at nature and natural learning. South Bend Woodworks shared toymaking process and their educational partnership with Goodwill Industries. We learn about the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and how the program is getting books in the hands of children.

Wild School
Time and time again children have proven to be professionals at turning nothing into something. As a way of embracing that natural tendency to learning Luna Hill Farm created the Wild School. Here, children are able to get outside and problem solve using the tools found in the natural world around them.

Underground Railroad Days
The Underground Railroad Society of Cass County is celebrating its 10th year collaborating with the Village of Vandalia, Michigan to recognize the legacy of The Underground Railroad in their community. The Underground Railroad Days is a 3 day event where guests can engage with historical sites from The Underground Railroad, learn more about the history, and even witness a play highlighting the seven stops to freedom. The Underground Railroad Days takes place annually the second weekend in July.

South Bend Woodworks
For the people at South Bend Woodworks, quality is their number one priority. South Bend Woodworks is a toy manufacturer that specializes in creating handmade wooden toys and products to last a lifetime. The South Bend Woodworks shop has even created toys for the White House Christmas party. Their shop is dedicated to training men and women in the art of Woodworking, even if they have no prior experience working with wood.

The South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce created a bridge between teachers and business. The one-week externship gives educators the chance to work with professionals in various fields to gain knowledge and skills they can take back to their classrooms.

Certified Innovation Mentor Program
Through this program, the Stayer Center works to help executives and other business leaders learn the art of innovation. Through hands on projects and learning, participants are able to resolve issues of stagnation in creativity within their respective fields.

Summer Enrichment Programs
The summer time often leads to the summer slip. To prevent this, the Plymouth Public Library offers free educational programs and activities to keep kids engaged during the summer months. There are also programs geared towards adults to help keep minds sharp.

The Warrior-Scholar Project
Warrior Scholar Project is on a mission to help veterans succeed in college. They provide mentoring , guidance, and a sense of community to veterans aiming to make the transition from being in the military to being a student at a four year university. In June, the organization visited veterans attending Notre Dame to host a two week long academic boot camp. There they provided resources and taught veterans about the various fields that they could possibly find work in.

RUMERTIME Summer Camp
RUMERTIME Summer Camp is bringing families together by helping to foster healthier interpersonal relationships within the household. The camp is a two week long social-emotional wellness program for families to get in touch with their emotions and manage issues within their relationships. The camp offers guidance, assistance with mindfulness, and works to destroy the stigma that comes with addressing mental health issues.
