Episode #425 - March 18th, 2020
Education Counts Michiana looks for programs and initiatives in the region that reaches learners from preschool through retirement. We found a Junior Chefs program at Jackson Middle School that is teaching students how to cook nutritional meals for their families. This grassroots program helps ease the burden on families by providing knowledge, safety skills and food for those in need. We attended a Superintendent Forum in Elkhart County that shared best practices from all the schools in the district. Fired Up! is an after-school program at Water Street Glassworks in Benton Harbor. At risk students learn to work with glass in this two year program. Michigan City is home to Imagination Station, a preschool that puts into practice the impact that quality early childhood education can provide.
