Joseph Ellis paints a full portrait of George Washington’s life and careers. He richly details Washington’s private life and how he influenced the perception of his own persona. We look inside Washington’s marriage and his entrance into the upper echelons of Virginia’s plantation society, and we watch the evolution of his attitude toward slavery, which led to his
emancipating his own slaves in his will. Through Ellis we comprehend the magnitude of his accomplishments and the character of his spirit and mind. Washington’s greatest contributions to American were his refusal of the crown and the defining of the American Presidency.
The Guest co-host is Dr. Peter Lombardo, University of Notre Dame I chose Peter Lombardo as my guest host because he is exceptionally drawn to American history. He earned a doctorate in American history from the University of Notre Dame. Peter is a champion for public television, and is quite an amiable friend and host. I call him my distinguished and dashing friend. He hails from Connecticut and knows all about cod and nutmeg. Peter is a good friend of WNIT.
