Economic Outlook - Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship

Approximately 49% of all job creation in the united states since the year 2000 have come in the areas of stage 1 and stage 2 businesses. It has been reported that the annual venture capital invested for 2012 increased by 22% compared to 2011. U.S. venture capital firms invested $28.5 billion in approximately 3,700 deals in 2012. The top sectors receiving the venture capital were biotechnology, medical device, life sciences, information technology and software industry. Early stage capital investments experienced double increases, rising 47% in terms of dollars and 16% in terms of deals. Later stage venture capital had seen investment numbers of $10 billion which is a 37% increase.
